Welcome to the 21st Century at your Library!
On April 24, 2012, the Portland Public Library of Sumner County launched its e-reader lending service with the release of six (6) pre-loaded Kindles for circulation. Stop by the main desk at the library or call us at (615) 325-2279 to find out how to reserve yours today!

Electronic Books
Anyone with a Kindle, Nook, etc. and a public library card can download from the Regional Ebook and Audiobook Download System provided by the state of Tennessee.  Simply use the link below.
Suggestion: Until you get used to their search and download system, you might want to try this:
Use the "Advanced Search" link in the dark blue box on the left side of the screen.
Enter a title or an author or a subject (e.g., Mystery.)
Select the format (e.g., Kindle).
Finally check the box "Only show titles with copies available."    (Once you are more familiar with the system, you can leave the box unchecked.  You can then add yourself to wait lists to reserve books.)

www.shmoop.com

This is an interesting web site for students and teachers.  The website provides study materials for selected literature, poetry, and U.S. history topics.   Below is part of a press release Shmoop sent out:

"We're Shmoop, a new educational website for high school and college students. A bunch of us (mostly Ph.D. and Masters students from Stanford and Berkeley) have worked on this for the past year-and-change. We opened our doors recently, and we're itching to ask you for your 2 cents, shekels, whatever.
